Update 4/20/2021

To our cycling community,

First of all, thank you for being patient as TriPower Cycling has been working out the details to resume group rides safely. It's been more than a year since our last official group ride. Today, we are excited and grateful to tell you that our Saturday and Sunday group rides will resume next Saturday, April 24th.

Saturday Rides

Assuming we have enough riders, we will have 3 groups A+, A, and B groups. Our first group will roll at 7:15 sharp. The first loop (if you forgot or are new to our rides) will be 20 miles. Our second loop will begin at 8:30 am and is about 30 miles.

Sunday Rides Our ride begins at 7:30 am and heads south to Creeds totaling about 55 miles. We plan to have both A & B paces. All rides begin and end at the Conte's parking lot in Virginia Beach.

Wednesday Rides: We are working on details for restarting our Wednesday night Hot Tuna ride (formerly, Perfect Fit). We need another week or so to work out these details, so stay tuned.

Tuesday, Thursday Early Morning Rides Each Tuesday and Thursday morning, TriPower hosts a group ride that leaves the Pinewood Shopping center at 7:30 am. The ride heads south and covers about 35 miles. The ride pace is 20-23 and does not have a B group. This is a No Drop ride, but it is a great way to meet with friends and stay active during the week; for those early risers, a subset of the group meets at Hot Tuna at 6:30 am and rides south to meet the rest of the group at 7:30.  Please be certain that you have lights for these rides as there are many bleary-eyed drivers who don't expect to encounter a cyclist at that early hour.

**As this is our first group ride in quite some time, we plan to eliminate sprints from the B group for the first 2 weeks. We are doing this to create a safe environment as many of our riders may not have ridden in a group for quite some time.

New Rules

  1. Bring a mask or neck gaiter that can act as a mask with you.

  2. We expect everyone to wear a mask whenever we are in a group and not riding. In the Conte's parking lot, inside the shop, and on the second loop at 7'Eleven. You should also wear a mask if you stop to fix a mechanical.

  3. Please keep all stops as short as possible. At 7-'Eleven on the second loop, wear your mask and limit your stop to under 5 minutes.

  4.  If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with someone who tested positive with Covid, please consider staying home or riding solo.

Revisiting TriPower Group Rules

When riding in the group, please remember the following standard rules and a few that are even more important during the Pandemic.

  1. Adhere to the group paces (Don't be impatient). A+-group, 22+, A-group is 20-22 (22 is not 25), and the B-group is 18-20 No-Drop (this means we will not leave people behind and expect the group to wait for slower riders)

  2. Do not clear your sinus' in the paceline. This means that if you need to blow your nose, please safely rotate to the back and then do what you have to do.

  3. Do not spit in the paceline. As above, rotate to the back and do your business.

  4. Signal turns, Call-out, when stopping or when you see holes, road debris, gravel, cars, etc.

  5. Hold your line and leave more space than normal (many people have not ridden in a group in a long time, and riding too close increases risk.)

  6. Manage sudden movements.

    1. Do not swerve left or right or slam on your brakes.

    2. Stay in one lane on multilane roads.

    3. Do not cross the yellow line when riding on single-lane roads.

  7.  Know your limits and maintain your equipment.

    1. If you haven't ridden consistently, please choose a group that you can hang with.

    2. If you haven't had your bike serviced for a while, or if it has cobwebs on it, please call the shop and have it serviced.

  8. Last but not least, we remember that TriPower rides are rides of inclusion, which means that we welcome everyone and care for everyone who rides with us. However, if anyone is not able to follow these rules, including wearing a mask, then you will be asked to stop riding with the group.
